My name is Carrie Bowers, and I specialize in mixed-media and acrylic painting. Much of my work is inspired by the beauty of the ocean where I swim or the travels I embark upon. You’ll find a sense of wonder and whimsy in my art as I tell my stories through upcycled materials, fabric, and paint.
Living in San Diego, California, I’m at no loss for inspiration. The La Jolla Marine Reserve offers a safe place for marine life and I’m fortunate enough to share my mornings with fish, sharks, sea turtles, dolphins, rays, and my favorite pod of humans.
My dad instilled in me a love of nature, a sense of adventure, and an eye for beauty. He won awards for his photography that often focused on the smallest details like the way the light of the moon reflected off a pond or how morning dew drops clung to a spider web. My eyes constantly scan my environment for the light that is just-so or the tree that twists and bends in a certain way. Sometimes a plastic tray looks like a fish, or a piece of rubber reminds me of a whale eye. There are so many ways to tell a story, and I hope through my art you can experience my joy and awe.
When I’m not in the ocean or my studio, you’ll find me hiking the trails with my beautiful dog, Leah, or out exploring the world.
